Christopher Gonko of Johnson, Gonko & Flaskamp currently focuses almost exclusively plaintiff’s personal injury matters but also has a broad range of prior experience consulting on, litigating and resolving matters from a broad spectrum of areas, including professional licensing denials and appeals, wage and employment law, family law and plaintiff consumer protection issues.
Previously a founding partner of Martineau, Gonko & Vavreck, PLLC and Gonko & Vavreck, PLLC, he is now pleased to have merged his injury practice into that of the office of longtime friend and colleague Timothy Johnson.
In addition to liability claims and litigation work resulting in regular high value settlements and final awards, Mr. Gonko takes particular pride in his very active no-fault insurance claims and arbitration practice. Since 2001 he has arbitrated to final decision an average of 1 to 2 contested hearings per week, well over 1000 contested claims. Mr. Gonko receives regular client referrals from current and past clients, other attorneys, and numerous professional organizations and nonprofits. In addition, many medical and chiropractic professionals throughout the state have been referring their patients to Mr. Gonko for years now, knowing that with his help their patients stand the best chance of an insurance company being forced to honor insurance benefits.
Mr. Gonko regularly consults with licensed treatment professionals on no-fault insurance claims compliance and professional licensing matters. His past speaking engagements have included presentations to other attorneys on behalf of the Minnesota Association for Justice, Minnesota State Bar Association, and for chiropractors via the Minnesota Chiropractic Association. Over the years Mr. Gonko has also conducted staff training seminars at multiple therapeutic clinics teaching the basics of no-fault insurance claim procedures. He has also conducted staff training in consumer protection matters for the non-profit organizations Lutheran Social Services, Family Means and Consumer Credit of Minnesota. Mr. Gonko also frequently consults with and coordinates legal service referrals on behalf of numerous community organizations dedicated to helping Minnesota’s various immigrant and refugee populations. In years past, Mr. Gonko also regularly appeared in Washington County Court as a court appointed volunteer Guardian ad Litem, independently investigating matters of child neglect, abuse and delinquency, and independently advocating in court for the best interests of children who are involved with county social services via court intervention.
On a personal side, Mr. Gonko is happily married to the love of his life, Jessica, who he first met in second grade and who assures him he should have asked her out in high school rather than wait until adulthood before they began their relationship. Between the two of them they have 5 young adult children, 2 grandchildren, 3 dogs and one shady cat. A true lifelong workout warrior, if he is not walking around Lake Como or hiking somewhere with his wife, he is usually found lifting weights, on an elliptical or a rowing machine, or doing some other form of physical activity to remind him he’s not as young as he used to be. An owner of well over 1000 books, someday he will find time to continue reading or re-reading all of them. The rest of his time is spent between staying current with local and worldwide news and events, the occasional chess game, his various collections of antique art glass, pocketknives, flashlights and watches, and the more frequent than he cares to admit borderline inappropriate jokes.
